    USB Mass Storage mode on the Nexus 7 MTP

    USB mass storage mode absent from devices like the Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 7, etc with the newer version of Android 3.0. USB mass storage mode is replaced by MTP (Media Transfer Protocol).

    Do you need a USB Mass Storage option in Nexus 7?
    Nexus 7 has 2 USB mode to connect to a computer. MTP (Media Transfer Protocol), PTP (Picture Transfer Protocol). You can use MTP not mass storage mode to transfer photos, videos, music, etc.

    Windows Vista and Windows 7 natively supports MTP mode. If you are using Windows XP, you must have Windows Media Player 10 or later. Mac OS does not support MTP mode. But you can install the Android File Transfer on Mac OS to allow data transfer through MTP.

    You can transfer files from your computer via WiFi & Android devices such as the Nexus 7 or Galaxy S2, S3, etc. using android apps like Kies Air, Water Droid etc. You do not even need to use a USB cable if you’re using WiFi.

    You can also stream media from Nexus 7 to the computer without using a cable. USB mass storage mode which released the new version of Android for a good reason to support MTP.
